KFC recently announced that it is looking for a “professional finger licker” – someone to eat fried chicken and become the face of their next campaign.
The fast-food chain is searching for their “biggest fan”, who will not only get to eat copious amounts of oil-soaked dead poultry but will become the face of their next advertising campaign and take part in a KFC “photoshoot”. The “lucky winner” will get to witness their face showcased in a KFC “restaurant” and lit up on a billboard. Wow.
The campaign is ludicrous, as the advert is not only styled as a mock-military recruitment, but it is also littered with prolific puns:
The winning KFC connoisseur will take part in an exclusive photoshoot showcasing their finest finger lickin skills…The clucky applicant will see their face in lights with their photo showcased in a restaurant and on their very own dedicated billboard.
What does that even mean? A photoshoot which will involve taking pictures of the winner while eating fried chicken? Then this picture of a person eating will be displayed in “a restaurant” (only one?), culminating in this picture of someone eating being displayed on a personal billboard whose visibility is further enhanced by the spectacle of lights.
In other words, a great start to a modelling career and life of fame.
You may believe that a job whose only labour involves eating fried chicken is too good to be true. It is true, but it is by no means good. Where is the real benefit for the winner? They’ll just become a marketing ploy for a mega-fast-food chain which kills 2.5 million chickens per day in the UK alone, serves meat to vegans and contributes to the world’s looming obesity epidemic.
So, in short, if eating fried chicken, allowing photos of yourself eating said chicken to be taken in a photo shoot, then subjecting yourself to one of these photos being subsequently displayed in a KFC restaurant and illuminated on a 27 x 40 billboard appeals to you, all the while contributing to the prodigious and unsustainable slaughtering of chickens – this is your dream job.
