Too Much Traffic Causes Drug Dealer’s Flat to Be Raided

Somebody isn’t social distancing, now are they?

One fortunate outcome of the COVID-19 quarantine period is the fact that it has proved a lot of people can absolutely work remotely from home! However, the changing landscape begs the question as to how people who already worked from home are coping. One such job, say drug dealers, appear to be thriving (or maybe not so much) during this time!

A drug dealer in Grimsby, a small town in Eastern England, found himself popular in a few ways this week. After the UK went into lockdown under the order of UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson on March 24th, it must have sent the public into a panic. However, this did not stop everyone from staying inside. This unnamed man found himself in the company of as many as 100 customers a day at his apartment! Now, that is not social distancing.

This flooring foot traffic during a time of quarantine caught the eye of one concerned neighbor:

“‘Most of us are working and don’t see it all day. But one of the neighbors has counted them. We told the police, but I suppose they have to wait for the right time.”

As for the police, wait for the right time they did. While the time of the raid is unknown, the police brought in two men for questioning on April 3rd, seizing a large quantity of cannabis and successfully shutting down the top-floor drug den. This revived a feeling of safety and stability (dare I say, control?) in the small community, one neighbor claiming:

“We are pleased to see the police going in and tackling the problem. It is rife ‘round here and you just watch them hanging around and then going into flats or knocking on windows and disappearing.”

Another neighbor exclaimed,

“At last! It has been going on for months.”

To assuage the cries of alarm from the drug dealer’s neighbors, Police Chief Superintendent Darren Wildbore released a statement:

“We are still doing warrants and just because we are in the midst of the COVID-19 national emergency it does not mean we are going to stop responding to the concerns in the community.”

In a time where people are left wondering when their life will return to normal, yearning for more uplifting days, this sense of camaraderie and justice could go a long way.
