Recently Netflix has launched a docu-series focused around the Cecil Hotel but the Crescent Hotel located at Eureka Springs in Arkansas is said to be one of the ‘most haunted’ in America. With an illustrious and dark history, the Crescent Hotel is the site of hundreds of alleged ghost sightings over the years.
The hotel was built in 1886 as a resort for the rich and famous but quickly became unmanagable causing the stablishment to spiral into disrepair, reopening again in 1908 as a Conservatory for Young women. All quite pleasant until millionaire Norman G. Baker entered the scene, posing as a doctor but with no certified medical training which did not stop him conductin experiments in attempts to cure various ailments including cancer.
The fraudulent doctor created and promoted the hotel as a hospital, testing a concoction on many patients who later died either due to ineffective treatment or the treatment itself. The formula was a solution containing glycerine, carbolic acid, and alcohol, which was mixed with tea brewed from watermelon seed, brown corn silk, and clover leaves.
These uncovered jars, numbering in at around 500, contained human specimens, samples of human flesh and other remains. The collection is said to belong to Dr Baker in his research of cancer treatments although, upon the initial discovery, there was trepidation in unearthing all of these macabre objects as it may or may not have been a crime scene.
With this dark history shrouding the hotel, it is evident why so many ghost sightings have been recorded. One such paranormal occurrence is the spectral sighting of a previous owners cat roaming the grounds of the hotel and to really sell the visceral fear resonating from the dark past of the hotel, the basement was the morgue of the “hospital”. Yelp.
Sightings such as “The Girl in the Mist” who is said to have been seen throwing herself from the balcony of the hotel, believed to be a patient of the deluded doctor.
So mark your calendars and visit the hotel to catch sight of some ghosts, but remember they are probably just as scared of you, as you are of them. The darkness falls fast but what happens under torchlight can stay with you forever.
