4. Temple of Artemis at Ephesus

Depiction of The Temple of Artemis By Martin Heemskerck

Artemisium was built by the King of Lydia, Croesus, back in 356 BCE. After a “madman” named Herostratus built the structure down, it was rebuilt for a second time and came back stronger than ever. But the story doesn’t end there. After the invasion of Goths in 262 CE, the temple was destroyed and never rebuilt again. I guess the third time wasn’t the charm.

At present-day Turkey, you will be able to find traces of the temple, along with smaller nearby architecture. After 6 years of searching, the temple was rediscovered in 1869, by John Turtle Wood, sponsored by the British Museum.
