‘You People’ Synopsis
Despite its lack of originality, there is more than enough to like in Barris and Hill’s screenplay. Focusing on the pairing of a dreamy podcaster and fashion designer craving her independence, it follows a tried-and-true boy meets girl formula. As the couple embarks on their romantic journey, they inevitably have to face the approval of each other’s families. Of course, this doesn’t go well, given Amira’s father’s disapproval of Ezra’s appropriated interest in Black culture and Ezra’s parents’ limited grasp of true progressiveness.
