What to Expect from Jurassic World Rebirth

This summer is loaded with action adventure movies families will be wanting to see! To kick off the 4th of July weekend, the newest installment of the Jurassic World franchise just hit theaters! Get ready to experience another journey of suspense and heart-racing moments!

Following the release of Jurassic World Dominion in 2022, plans for another Jurassic film were in the works. Director Steven Spielberg and screenwriter David Koepp, who worked on Jurassic Park, began writing a story for the new film. One thing they were certain of was that the new movie must evoke the atmosphere and tone of Jurassic Park.

Jurassic World Rebirth is Spielberg and Koepp’s idea. It’s the latest installment in the film series and was released in the U.S. on July 2, 2025. Let’s revisit the Jurassic franchise and explore the release of Jurassic World Rebirth.

What is Jurassic Park?

Jurassic Park is a science fiction novel published by Michael Crichton in 1990. It tells the chilling story of a zoological park where dinosaurs are recreated through genetic engineering. Jurassic Park was a bestseller and became Crichton’s most famous work. Steven Spielberg directed and released a film adaptation in 1993.

The film is about a group of scientists invited to examine businessman Dr. John Hammond’s dinosaur park before its opening. Terror arises when malfunctions in the park cause the dinosaurs to escape their enclosures. It stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum and was the highest-grossing film that year.

As a result of the film’s success, Crichton published the sequel titled The Lost World in 1995, which Spielberg adapted into the 1997 film, The Lost World: Jurassic Park. A third film, Jurassic Park III, directed by Joe Johnston, was released in 2001. Both sequels included returning characters from the first film, like Dr. Ian Malcolm (Goldblum) and Alan Grant (Neill).

After some time, Jurassic World hit theaters in 2015. It was the fourth installment in the Jurassic series and the first film in the Jurassic World trilogy. Directed by Colin Trevorrow, this film stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. It introduces a fresh new cast of characters and their hair-raising experience at the newly opened park, Jurassic World.

The disastrous events of Jurassic World are followed by Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), when dinosaurs are set free onto land inhabited by humans. Ultimately, dinosaurs now live among humans in Jurassic World Dominion (2022), the trilogy’s conclusion. Pratt and Howard’s characters unite with returning actors Neill, Dern, and Goldblum.

Jurassic World Rebirth

Jurassic World Rebirth hit theaters on July 2, 2025. Directed by Gareth Edwards, it presents audiences with brand new characters,even dinosaurs. locations, and Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey star in the film.

The film takes place five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion. Dinosaurs have been unable to coexist with humans and survive Earth’s environment. Due to this, the remaining dinosaur populations were relocated to isolated, tropical regions that resembled their original surroundings.

Within that territory are three immense creatures carrying a significant DNA element. This element is the key to creating a drug that can save lives. Zora Bennett (Johansson) is an undercover operative who leads a team on a secret mission to obtain the DNA.

The team includes Duncan Kincaid (Ali), paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis (Bailey), and Martin Krebs (Rupert Friend). While on their mission, Bennett’s team encounters the Delgado family, played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, and Audrina Miranda. The team and the Delgados stick together to survive against the dangerous dinosaurs on the island.

What dinosaurs will we see?

After delving into Jurassic World Rebirth’s storyline, it’s time to move on to the astonishing and shocking dinosaurs that complete the film. Every Jurassic movie includes fan favorite dinosaurs as well as brand new ones. Let’s dive into the prehistoric creatures that will have you in awe and on the edge of your seat this summer!

In the Jurassic World Rebirth trailers, we see Johansson and Bailey admiring some Titanosaurus, an enormous herbivore with a long neck and tail. We see these characters battling against a Quetzalcoatlus, a large Pterosaur. The second trailer introduces a tiny Aquilops, named Dolores, who becomes a lovable companion to the Delgado family.

Unlike in previous Jurassic films, Rebirth presents the audience with frightening dinosaurs from failed experiments. One of these is the Distortus Rex, a giant carnivorous creature with six limbs. The second is a Mutadon, a dinosaur with Velociraptor and pterosaur-like features.

Along with these new additions, fans of the Jurassic franchise will be excited to see familiar dinosaurs. We will see the Tyrannosaurus chasing the Delgado family as they paddle through a body of water in an inflatable raft, a scene originally from Crichton’s Jurassic Park. The Dilophosarus, Mosasaurus, and Spinosaurus will also make appearances in this new film.

Furthermore, Mattel’s new toys hint at additional dinosaurs that we may see in Jurassic World Rebirth. Figurine packs including Reuben Delgado (Garcia-Rulfo) and Duncan Kincaid (Ali) are accompanied by a Parasaurolophus and Velociraptor. There are also single action figures of Beipiaosaurus, Eotriceratops, and Aucasaurus, dinosaurs that have never been in the Jurassic films.

Going behind the scenes on Jurassic World Rebirth

One of the main objectives in developing Jurassic World Rebirth was to have it capture the essence of Jurassic Park. David Koepp, the screenwriter for the first two Jurassic films, worked on Rebirth alongside Steven Spielberg. He aimed to return to the concept of humans entering dinosaur territory, rather than dinosaurs entering a human environment, to keep the spirit of the original film.

Filming took place on oceans and islands in Thailand and Malta to successfully evoke this nostalgic ambience and tone. Director Gareth Edwards shot the movie on 35mm film to capture a similar aesthetic to Jurassic Park. Though film shooting took more time to process, Edwards believed the result was worth it.

The experience of making Jurassic World Rebirth was a lifelong dream for some of the cast members. Scarlett Johansson has been a Jurassic Park fan since she first saw the movie in 1993. For years, she hoped one day she’d become part of the Jurassic film series, reaching out whenever a new one was developing.

Jonathan Bailey’s experience was equally magical while making the film’s soundtrack. Having performed in an orchestra as a teenager, Bailey never would have believed he’d be allowed to contribute to the score for Jurassic World Rebirth. In an orchestra led by composer Alexandre Desplat, he played his own clarinet solo, which will be heard during a touching scene between his character and the Titanosaurus.

As a huge Jurassic Park fan, I’ve been excited about Jurassic World Rebirth! I’m looking forward to watching Scarlett Johansson in a role she’s always wanted to have, and I can’t wait to see new and familiar dinosaurs on the big screen! These movies are all thrilling and suspenseful, so it’s sure to be an unforgettable experience.

After watching the movie trailers, I felt even more excited and curious about what to expect. I love how they bring back the suspense and fear that the original film felt. It’s amazing how the crew really wanted to return to that naturalistic quality and look seen in Jurassic Park, as it adds a sense of adventure and nostalgia.
