This looks epic.

Netflix has saved so many of us during this pandemic. Seriously, without its vast library of movies and TV shows, I’m not sure many of us (especially those of us with children!) would be as sane as we are now. Not to mention just how many gems Netflix creates on its own! From The Tiger King to The Witcher, Netflix creates content that almost rivals HBO, and that’s saying something! When we got wind that Netflix had released the opening scenes for season 2 of The Umbrella Academy, we had to share with you all.

Before we fully dive into this opening scene, let’s refresh about where we left off in season 1. (This is your chance to stop reading, if you haven’t watched any of this show yet.) Vanya (Ellen Page) finally stops taking her meds and reaches the full potential of her powers. Five (Aidan Gallagher) manages to time travel himself and the other siblings off into the unknown before Vanya releases a giant cloud of destruction. Five had always warned the siblings before Vanya’s meltdown that time travel came with risks. In these opening scenes, we discover some of those risks.

There is a lot to unpack there. Five has time-traveled into an alternate timeline where the Soviets have attacked the United States in 1960. We find Vanya, Luther, Diego, Allison, and Ben (in full form ghost style!) engaged in a battle with the Soviets. As Five stands there, awestruck by what is happening around him, Diego shouts, “Five! You sick son of a B, where the H have you been?” Before Five can make his way to Diego, Hazel jumps in from nowhere and points of the nukes about to rain down — he says the only way to save everyone is to leave with him. Both jump to safety and the scene ends in a mushroom cloud.

Probably the coolest beginning credit scene for this show to date!

Obviously, these few minutes brings SO many questions to mind. Where we the siblings this whole time? How did they become engaged in fighting the Soviets? Where was Five before all of this? What is Hazel actually up to? Now, some of these questions could be answered if you read the comic books — they are put out by Dark Horse comics and are readily available at any comic shop. But if you want to remain spoiler-free for now, just wait until the whole season drops TODAY, July 31.

Happy Binge watching to you all! And from all of us at Trill!: be safe, wash your hands and don’t forget your mask.
