Beloved ‘90s television program Unsolved Mysteries is making a comeback via Netflix.
On Tuesday, Netflix released the trailer for Unsolved Mysteries, a revival of the popular NBC docuseries. Production is headed by Terry Dunn Meurer and John Cosgrove, the men behind the original show, along with the creators of hit Netflix series Stranger Things.
Unsolved Mysteries began with a set of NBC specials in 1987 that eventually evolved into a television series that ran until 2002. The show was resurrected on Spike from 2007-2010, but these episodes only included edited-down versions of previously aired cases. In its upcoming season, Netflix promises a brand new set of puzzling mysteries.
Like the original, the show will fuse true crime and paranormal phenomena in an exploration of the most confounding real-life events—from suspicious disappearances to UFO sightings. Stranger Things executive producer and director Shawn Levy revealed that the reboot “is very loyal to the things we all love about the brand.” In fact, it’ll even utilize the same title music.
The iconic program included a 1-800 number for viewers to call with any information that could help authorities in their investigations. Because of this tipline, Mysteries has helped solve over 260 cold cases. The new series will uphold this effort, with each episode calling for anyone with relevant information to visit unsolved.com.
“We’ve staffed up to ensure that leads are quickly passed to the appropriate parties,” Meurer and Cosgrove said.
While each episode of the original series featured four cases, the remake will focus in on one case per episode. This will allow for a closer look at the events of each mystery, leaving more room for testimonials from witnesses, detectives, journalists, and the families and friends of victims. The new series will also not have a host or narrator, in honor of the “singular and irreplaceable presence” of original host Robert Stack, who died in 2003.
While the first season will have a total of 12 episodes, only the first six mysteries will premiere July 1 on Netflix.
