True Crime Fans Will Love the New Netflix Show ‘The Innocence Files’

Wrongful convictions are finally brought to justice.

Netflix’s new crime series, “The Innocence Files,” follows the true stories of chilling wrongful convictions that will leave you questioning everything.

The nine-part documentary delves into eight cases involving men facing decades to life in prison for a crime they claim they did not commit. The detectives of the “Innocence Project,” reveal the ‘miscarriages of justice,’ exposing flaws in the way crimes are investigated and ultimately carried out in court.

The series tells the stories of Chester Hollman III, Kenneth Wyniemko, Alfred Dewayne Brown, Thomas Haynesworth, Franky Carrillo, Levon Brooks, Kennedy Brewer and Keith Harward.

The first episode follows the wrongful conviction of Levon Brooks. Brooks was sentenced to life in prison for the rape and murder of a three-year-old girl based on bite-mark evidence. Soon after his conviction a similar crime took place, but Brooks would not be exonerated for 16 years.

The show hopes to spread awareness on the detrimental effects of wrongful convictions to the person convicted and their families. The Innocent Project also brings to light the tireless efforts of non-profit organizations to overturn verdicts on these cases.

The cofounders of The Innocence Project, Peter Neufeld and Barry Scheck had this to say about the show:

“We are thrilled to be part of the groundbreaking Netflix series, The Innocence Files.

“This is truly important television. Each episode reveals – step by step – how the American criminal justice system gets it wrong. These stories feature people whose freedom was stolen because of governments’ reliance on junk science, discredited and suggestive eyewitness identification procedures, and prosecutors who engage in misconduct to win at any cost.

“We hope these stories motivate people to take action. There are tried and tested reforms that will improve the system to make it more fair and just. Countless innocent people endure unspeakable suffering in maximum security prisons and death row for crimes they didn’t commit.

“These miscarriages of justice extend a circle of pain and trauma that embraces families, communities, and even victims of crime. We must do better.”

Good news for The Innocence Files because the show is now rated in the Top 10 most viewed on Netflix’s website!
