R.L. Stine’s famous, beloved series is getting yet another new adaptation. But unlike the 2015 film, this new take on the horror-lite franchise is a live-action series.
The folks over at Sony Entertainment have revealed a new Goosebumps project begin led by Neal H. Moritz, the producer of the Goosebumps and Goosebumps 2 films. This show, made in conjunction with Sony Pictures TV and Scholastic Entertainment, is the newest bit of content from this long running series.
Surprisingly, Goosebumps is one of the most well-selling series of books of all time with over 350 million books having been sold since its inception. In addition, the series is beloved by old and young alike for it’s fun take on spooky stories. I’ve got plenty of nostalgia for some of those books and episodes myself.
The original show ran from 1995 to 1998, and it was one of the highest rated children’s shows around during its run. And now that it spawned two fairly popular movies starring Jack Black, it’s time for Goosebumps to return to the television once again.
According to Iole Lucchese, the Scholastic Entertainment President and Chief Strategy Officer, who spoke to Deadline recently claimed that:
Goosebumps has been keeping kids and families on the edge of their seats for nearly 30 years and we’re very excited to partner with Sony Pictures Television and Neal H. Moritz to bring the enduring brand to life in a fresh new way for today’s generation.
And Neal H. Moritz added:
I loved making the Goosebumps movies and can’t wait to bring even more of R. L. Stine’s incredible stories to life through a high-end television series that speaks to both adults and kids alike.
I haven’t seen the newest Goosebumps movies, but I loved the show as a kid. It always helped me get in the Halloween spirit once October rolled around, and I’m happy to hear about this new series. Anything that makes Spooktober just a bit more spooky is okay in my book. Speaking of things that give you goosebumps, check out what this weirdo has been doing on Florida beaches.
