Happy New Year everyone! Hopefully, your holidays were enjoyable and safe, with this Omicron variant spreading wildly. It’s hard to believe 2021 has ended and we’re a few days into 2022! Somehow it all seems to be going by so quickly, maybe because we’re getting older and the pandemic has definitely aged us all wouldn’t you say? Anyway, even with Covid restrictions, movies still found their way onto the big screen and streaming services. There were many memorable ones, let’s look back at a few.
Petite Maman
Even with lockdowns in place in 2020 and early 2021 in some places, movies still were made. Celine Sciamma did just that, showcasing something we as humans all want in life: love. We want to be loved and we want to give/show love to the people we care about the most. Though love can come in many forms, love seen through the eyes of children is something truly heartwarming. To be young and find joy in the simplest of things makes it so special to witness as an adult. Petite Maman is a must-see to see love through the eye of a child with a twist but still in all of the qualities that can’t help but make you smile.
The Green Knight
Giving off some Game of Thrones and other medieval esque vibes, The Green Knight definitely needs to be on your list to watch for the stunning visuals alone. David Lowery takes the main character Gawain, played by actor Dev Patel, on the journey and experience of a lifetime through real-time and dream sequences. Gawain does not want to be on this journey and doesn’t fully know why he is but it is one for the ages. Also, the talking fox…anyone else think of Rocket from Guardians of the Galaxy but less dramatic shall we say? Plus, who doesn’t love a good talking animal sidekick in a movie? Watch The Green Knight soon and enjoy the journey you’re about to embark on!
Dune
Even though this may seem like another modern remake of a film from the past, 1984 to be exact, this latest version of Dune is anything but the usual modern remake. Denis Villeneuve has taken the classic story by Frank Herbert and taken it to a whole new level. Using modern advances in filmmaking while still respecting the story and all it already has to offer, this new version is a must-see! And a sequel is already in the works. That won’t be dropping until 2023 but at least that’s something to look forward to.
These are just 3 of many films that were released in 2021. What were your favorites? Drop some titles in the comment section!
