Filming of season three of Sex Education has come to a close, which means the rave-review teen drama will be hitting our screens again very soon.
The third season of the hugely successful Netflix comedy-drama Sex Education has wrapped filming. According to Lad Bible, a crew member shared the exciting news, posting a picture on set.
The caption read: “That’s a wrap. Thank you Sex Education Season 3 and everyone involved for that epic eight month adventure in love, laughter, and TV magic.”
Fans of the series were quick to respond with enthusiasm, commenting on the post: “Congratulations, we look forward to this season.”
Another said: “Yess!!! So excited,” while a third added: “Congrats omg I’m so hyped.”
Revealing details about the upcoming season, Asa Butterfield, who plays the main character, Otis, told the Guardian:
“There’s a bit of a time-jump since the season two cliffhanger. Otis is back at school but he’s got different things on his plate. He’s grown up a bit and become slightly more sassy.
It’s been fun to portray his newfound charisma. Don’t worry, though, he’s still tragically awkward too.”
A time jump is not all that’s new to season three, Butterfield confirmed to The Guardian that Otis might have newfound facial hair in the forthcoming episodes:
“We got snapped by paparazzi while filming and people have been freaking out about Otis having a moustache.”
The cast were seen wearing uniforms on set – a major shift from the vibrant American high school aesthetic (despite the show being set in Wales) that has become oh so familiar. A fan shared photos of cast members in their new grey get-up in a tweet, expressing bewilderment.
Spoilers incoming.
Netflix confirmed there would be a season three of the mega-popular show in an announcement made last February by none other than Headmaster Groff (Alistair Petrie).
Headmaster Groff muses over the plot of season three in this video.
To recap, season two ended with Otis confessing his love for Maeve Wiley (Emma Mackey) in a voicemail, which was deleted by Isaac (George Robinson), a new character to season two.
It will be interesting to see how the ‘time-jump’ plays out in season three and where the romance and drama will lead Otis and Maeve, Eric (Ncuti Gatwa) and Adam (Connor Swindells).
Season one was first released on Netflix in January 2019 and went on to be watched by 40 million people only a month after its premiere. Now, over two years on, season three is waiting in the wings.
