Who needs Roblox and Fortnite ‘Squid Game’ maps when Netflix is looking to make an official video game for the show?

It’s official – ‘Squid Game’ has reached 111 million viewers, making the Korean survival thriller Netflix’s most-watched show ever. Naturally, executives are trying to figure out how to further capitalize on this success while millions of fans are still clamoring for more content. Netflix executive Minyoung Kim has confirmed that the streaming company is looking into season 2, “consumer products” (AKA merchandise), and a video game.

The following is a quote from Kim’s interview with The Hollywood Reporter:

My team’s role is to really look at all of those opportunities together, to create that roadmap for the Squid Game IP. We are looking at multiple different areas — from games, consumer product and others — to really figure out what we can bring to our audiences to increase their affinity toward our content and give them more joy, while staying true to the world that our creator has built. Regarding a season two, we’re still having that conversation with the director and the producer, and hopefully we’ll be able to come back to you with that answer soon. So it’s all in the works, but if you think about it, the show only launched less than a month ago. This is just the start.

Kim seems determined to bring more content to fans. But for now, there’s no guarantee that there will be a ‘Squid Game’ video game. If one is produced, however, it isn’t likely to be a AAA PC or console release with high-end graphics. Like the ‘Stranger Things 3’ game, ‘Squid Game’ would likely be mobile and made available only on Netflix’s upcoming gaming app. A game similar to ‘Fall Guys’ set in the ‘Squid Game’ universe might still be a fun way to pass the time when taking the train or waiting in the doctor’s office.

‘Squid Game’ fans, especially younger ones, aren’t waiting around for Netflix to play a video game version of their favorite show. If you can’t wait either, consider one of the many, many ‘Squid Game’ inspired games on Roblox. If blocks aren’t your forte, Fortnite fans have already designed dozens of maps centered around ‘Squid Game’ and the games within.
