Michael Fassbender and David Hasselhoff have been cast to play in a full-length feature film of Kung Fury, The Hollywood Reporter reveals.

A tribute to ’80s cop films, Kung Fury was initially a crowd-funded 30-minute film, now available to watch for free.

“When I started this project… I was driven by a strong will, love for the 80s and action movies,” writes David Sandberg, who directed the original.

“At the beginning of this project, I took $5000 of my own money and just started shooting whenever I and my friends had time.”

The kickstarter project amassed nearly 18,000 backers and raised over $630,000. It was chosen for the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes and gained over 40 million views worldwide.

Kung Fury describes itself as featuring, “arcade-robots, dinosaurs, nazis, Vikings, Norse gods, mutants and a super Kung fu-cop called Kung Fury, all wrapped up in an 80s style action-packed adventure.”

The new feature-length film will be produced by David Sandberg, David Katzenberg, Seth Grahame-Smith, and Aaron Schmidt under KatzSmith Productions, who produced Stephen King’s IT.

Kung Fury is set to shoot this summer in Europe and the US.
