Let’s look at the world of Flight 828 with the release of Manifest season 4, part 1, on Netflix. There are plenty of clues and developments to reveal with our favorite passengers, including a certain one who returned a little bit older.

In Manifest season 4, Cal is around 19 or 20 years old. After Cal returned to his home at the end of season 3, he was no longer around 12 years old. Instead, he had caught up to Olive’s age, i.e., about 17 or 18 years. It was the age he was supposed to be if he was not a Flight 828 passenger.

Although Cal seems to be a grown man, his mentality and experiences are still of his younger self. The two years between seasons 3 and 4 needed Cal to catch up emotionally with Olive.

It’s worth pointing out and explaining that Cal didn’t have five and a half years of experience during his disappearance, and he doesn’t have memories from that time away. All we know is that he touched the tailfin and mysteriously came back a few years older.

It might seem that Cal’s short-lived romance with Violet is off-putting because of Cal’s younger mental age. However, Manifest deals with time differently than most shows, and he isn’t a 14-year-old kid inside a 20-year-old’s body, he’s still Cal but a little different. Like all things Manifest, it’s confusing and tricky, but it makes sense when you think about it.
