CBS is currently turning novel ‘L.A. Confidential’ into a television series.
The 1990’s novel of the same name is written by James Ellroy, and will fit in perfectly with CBS’ love of crime dramas. (And hopefully will be just as successful!)
The new series closely follows the novel’s plot, which I’m sure fans of the novel are pleased to hear. CBS will be showing three different detectives who come together to work on a mysterious case. A female journalist and Hollywood actress also collaborate with them in their bid to stop a terrifying serial killer in 1950s Los Angeles.
L.A. Confidential forms part of Ellroy’s ‘L.A. Quartet’, a series of novels depicting life in the dark and gloomy City of Angels. ‘The Black Dahlia’, ‘The Big Nowhere’ and ‘White Jazz’ complete the quartet.

Despite there being four novels, L.A. Confidential is the most popular. It was adapted for the big screen in 1997, starring Kim Basinger, Kevin Spacey and Russell Crowe and proved itself at the Oscars that year. However, until now, no more film or tv adaptations have been successful, though proposals were plenty!
But, New Regency, Lionsgate Entertainment and CBS decided that 2017 is the year for another adaptation, 20 years after the first. The new series will be written and produced by Jordan Harpe, who will also be executive producing. You may be familiar with his work from Gotham and The Mentalist and if these are anything to go by, L.A. Confidential will be a huge hit!
