Has The ‘Joker’ Sequel Been Green Lit?

News outlets report that we might have a sequel to look forward to.

On November 20, following a report released by The Hollywood Reporter, many news outlets reported that a second ‘Joker’ film was in the works.

This news came as a surprise as the film starring Joaquin Phoenix had been initially planned to be a solo work. However, many news outlets reported that following all of the success of ‘Joker’ in box office, where it broke records for being the first rated R movie to make $1 billion dollars and being the most profitable comic book movie ever, it was possible that the directors wished to capitalize of its success with a sequel.

According to the report, the movie is set to be directed by Todd Philips again and to have Joaquin Phoenix reprise his role as Arthur Fleck, the eponymous Joker.

Furthermore, it was said that Todd Philips also wished to buy the rights of other DC Comics characters to “develop a portfolio of DC characters’ origin stories” and was said to have succeeded in obtaining the rights of at least one DC Comics character.

However, a contrasting report from Deadline, stated that there is no Joker sequel currently in the works and the news stating that Todd Philips had obtained rights to other DC Comics characters, to direct gritty origin stories for them as well, was incorrect.

Whatever the case is, there is no denying the success of ‘Joker.’ Until there is more solid verification of a sequel, feel free to check out these other articles about the anti-hero here.
