Game of Thrones Finale: Script Joke?

Maybe it should have been a joke?

Image Via: The Hollywood Reporter// HBO

Sometimes people like to play jokes when the last of something is coming up. You know, like senior pranks before graduation.

Even if you didn’t watch the Game of Thrones finale, I am sure you know what happened at this point. If you still haven’t seen it and don’t want to know yet, stop reading now (you’re welcome).

Many people are clearly disappointed with the way things ended. In fact, even Isaac Hempstead-Wright, who plays Bran Stark, was shocked when he got the script for the finale. Bran, as we now know, became the ruler of Westeros and claimed the Iron Throne. Hempstead-Wright thought the script was a joke and everyone had received a script with their character becoming the ruler.

When I got to the [Dragonpit scene] in the last episode and they’re like, ‘What about Bran?’ I had to get up and pace around the room

I genuinely thought it was a joke script and that [showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss] sent to everyone a script with their own character ends up on the Iron Throne. ‘Yeah, good one guys. Oh s–t, it’s actually real?’”

Not everyone will be happy. It’s so difficult to finish a series as popular as this without pissing some people off.

I don’t think anybody will think it’s predictable and that’s as much as you can hope for. People are going to be angry.

There’s going to be a lot of broken hearts. It’s bittersweet, exactly as [author] George R.R. Martin intended. It’s a fitting conclusion to this epic saga.

Well, there you have it. The script was in fact not a joke, and Bran Stark really was crowned king. While there are still unanswered questions, and many upset people, at least we know who took the throne. Though to a lot of fans, this ending really was a joke…
