‘Flight of the Conchords’ Comeback For One Hour HBO Special

The iconic musical comedian duo, ‘Flight of the Conchords returns to the small screen in the HBO special episode.

Jermaine Clement and Bret McKenzie are coming back with a new project for their band ‘The Flight of the Conchords’. The band started in 1998 in New Zealand, where the duo is from. It then progressed into a radio series for BBC Radio 2 which followed the band’s search for commercial success in London. This radio show went on to receive the Bronze Sony Radio Academy Award for comedy.

Popularity grew and the duo landed a television series on HBO starring their now developed fictional selves once again. This ran for two seasons, from 2007 to 2009, showing the band and their trials and tribulations in New York. The show ended after its second season finished in December 2009. this abrupt end upset many fans.

Throughout the show’s runtime, it was nominated for a total of ten Emmy Awards for comedy. These included ‘Outstanding Comedy Series’ and ‘Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series’ for Jermaine Clement.

Clement has confirmed the comeback whilst talking with Entertainment Tonight. Saying that “We’re going to film a little something this year,” and then explaining that they are “to shoot an hour thing.”. It’s not been confirmed by the band or HBO whether this special will be a film or a TV-based project.

Outside of the Band, the pair have found individual fame. Clement recently starred as a villain in Disney’s ‘Moana’, as a Giant Crab. McKenzie has a recurring role in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ and ‘The Hobbit’ franchise. Overall, both are talented individuals who only improve when you put them and their skills together. The band did a tour around North America in 2016 although this remains their only event together since 2009.
