Nobody was expecting the announcement made by Variety on August 20 that the Matrix would be back!
The two main actors, Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, will be returning to their roles as Neo and Trinity. But, the Wachowski sisters are splitting up; Lana Wachowski will be directing the movie without the help of Lilly Wachowski.
Toby Emmerich, the current chairman of Warner, has said: “We could not be more excited to be re-entering the Matrix with Lana [Wachowski]. Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in the Matrix universe”.
The first Matrix movie is considered a classic. The two sequels were box office successes, and hopefully this new movie will blow up at the box office.
The film will not be a reboot, but a continuation of the past films. Production could start in early 2020.
