Have you ever wondered how your favourite whisky came to be? Then get ready to watch the new documentary about whisky brand Johnnie Walker.

The documentary titled The Man Who Walked Around the World was released on the Discovery Channel on 18 November and will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video from 26 November. The film tells the story of John Walker, who originated Johnnie Walker, which became one of the most famous whisky brand names.

John Walker

John’s father died in 1819 when he was just 14 years old. He used the proceeds from their sold farm to open a grocer’s store in Kilmarnock. It was common for grocers to stock different local malts but they were often inconsistent. John decided to blend different malts together to offer his customers a unique product, which grew became what we now know as Johnnie Walker’s whisky.

More Than Just Whisky

The brand has been passed on through generations and is regarded as a symbol of progress.

Director Anthony Wonke said of the film: “The story of Johnnie Walker is fascinating. It explores the alchemy of a brand and what it takes to create an icon. It has punch and depth – a brilliant history packed with intrigue and romanticism.”

“Dig deeper and we find it has the potential to be so much more – a story about what makes us human, the things we can achieve and what keeps pushing us forward.”

The film can be viewed in the UK here.
