Some people go for a walk or read a book to spark their creativity. Nile Rodgers has 11 televisions playing 24 hours a day.

Legendary musician Nile Rodgers has 11 televisions switched on ’24 hours a day’ because the white noise provides a distraction that inspires his creativity.

The 68-year-old told the Sunday Times that his electricity company told him he has ‘the most TVs in one house of anyone they’ve ever known’.

The music icon that has collaborated with superstars like Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Madonna, and Daft Punk, told the publication:

“Music is at the heart of everything I do, and it never leaves my day. I think in music, not words, and I have this hyperactive music machine for a brain, which is a blessing and curse.

“It’s always composing, but don’t get me wrong: it’s not always good stuff. Most of it is ridiculous stuff, but, boy, does it have me interested.”

The Everybody Dance hitmaker said he ‘can’t function without the distraction of having the televisions on. He added:

“I need a distraction to narrow my focus, so I have televisions switched on all over my house 24 hours a day, creating a white noise in the background.”

Nile Rodgers walks us through the musical process for his hit song Everybody Dance.

When Rodger’s isn’t focused on music, he relaxes by taking vacations. He said his days never wind down gradually ‘they only slow down by accident’. He continued:

“I might just fall asleep by accident, but usually, even after I’ve eaten – more of yesterday’s increasingly delicious leftovers – I’ll be answering emails or indulging in my only hobby, which is practising my guitar, which people might be surprised that I still need to do.”

The Chic legend revealed that he always falls asleep with the TV set to the same decibel level as a Concorde jet (more or less). And when he wakes the following day, he said, ‘I just laugh and think to myself: Jesus, how the hell did I sleep through that?’

The sound of his guitar, voice, and 11 televisions doesn’t make for a quiet home. Let’s hope his neighbours are big Nile Rodgers fans, but let’s be honest, who isn’t?
