New Music Friday: All Time Low Re-recording “Dear Maria, Count Me In”

“Dear Maria, Count Me In” (ATL’s Version) balances the pop-punk nostalgia with their musical maturity the band have honed over their career.

All Time Low, the American rock band have recently celebrated 20 years as a band and embarked on a tour in celebration. Playing the biggest shows in their entire career as well as getting their own exhibit in Cleveland’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. To continue the celebration the band announced earlier this week that they were going to re-record their iconic and 3x platinum hit, “Dear Maria, Count Me In.”

Starting in 2003, All Time Low formed while in high school, and worked hard to secure a record deal with Hopeless Records upon graduation. After a career of ups and downs as well as constant touring, the band ended up with the recent smash hit in 2020 that dominated alternative radio. “Monsters” featuring rapper Blackbear and later versions also had Demi Lovato on the track gave the band a number 1 hit on the 2021 US Alternative Airplay Songs on Billboard.

“Monsters” success at radio garnered the band a lot more attention and new fans to their already dedicated fan base. Following up that success, in 2023 the band released the album Tell Me I’m Alive.

This new version shows not only the bands overall growth in the 13 years since “Dear Maria, Count Me In” was released it also highlights their honorary fifth member, Dan Swank, who rounds out the groups sound with keys on tour. The new version also blends the different styles the band has expanded to well and makes the song feel both nostalgic and fresh.

New Label?

While playing the Salt Shed on June 26th in Chicago the band made the announcement that their new version of “Dear Maria, Count Me In” would be released August 2nd.

Before playing “Dear Maria, Count Me In” live, singer Alex Gaskarth said,

“In a little under a weeks time a new recording of this song [will be out]. And it would mean a whole damn lot to us if you guys would treat that one like it’s the f***ing original. Master rights baby. We’re starting our own record label and we signed ourselves to that record label. And we re-did a bunch of our old s*** and we’ll see where things go right?”

Re-recording music to gain master rights has started becoming more prevalent in recent years, and All Time Low is no exception. In Taylor Swift fashion it seems that the band are releasing “ATL’s Version” of their previous releases through Hopeless Records and possibly even more recent releases on Fueled By Ramen.

This raises the question of did All Time Low split with Fueled By Ramen? Fueled By Ramen have been a powerhouse indie label for many pop-punk and rock bands including Fall Out Boy, Paramore, Twenty-One Pilots, Panic! At the Disco, and many more.

Fueled By Ramen did not promote this release on social media but have not unfollowed the band either. This seems to be the second band to have quietly left the label, just a few months ago Waterparks announced online that they were an unsigned artist again. All Time Low have had the track record in the past of amicably splitting with their previous labels, both Hopeless Records and Concord.

The bands new label, Basement Noise/Photo Finish Records currently has just All Time Low signed and will serve as a place where the band can have all of their master rights going directly to them.

New Re-recorded Album
