Its only just been a teeny tiny bit over a year since the Gorillaz released their 5th album Humanz after a 7-year hiatus, now it seems they’re making up for lost time by announcing the band’s 6th album.
The band first started teasing the release of the sixth album with a newly launched website, TheNowNow.tv on May 26th. The website features nothing more than a very short video clip of the album title and the release date. One of the bands characters, 2-D can very briefly be seen sat, holding a guitar.
The announcement comes hot on the heels of the unveiling of a new track called Hollywood featuring Snoop Dogg. The song was debuted live during a performance in Santiago, Chile back in March.
Gorillaz co-founder Jamie Hewlett hinted in an interview with Stereogum last year that a new album was on the horizon.
“We’re going straight into the album with no break,” Hewlett said. “Usually we have a good five-year break between each album but we decided: ‘You know what? Let’s keep going’ because there’s ideas for a few more albums so we’re going to go straight into that. So that will be all of next year and probably the year beyond that.”
Singer Damon Albarn told Q Magazine.
“If we’re going to do more with Gorillaz we don’t want to wait seven years because, y’know, we’re getting on a bit now.”
Albarn also confirmed the album release on twitter.

Earlier this month it was reported that Albarn left his laptop in the back of a London taxi after a night out at London’s Groucho Club. The laptop contained the master copy of the forthcoming album. Fortunately for the band, Albarn managed to track down the taxi and his laptop was returned to him untampered.
