Brazilian videogamer Guilherme Menezes was robbed at gunpoint over his own live stream. While most think of gaming as an anti-social activity, it was actually one of Menezes’s viewers who called the police and saved him!
Gaming Gone Wrong
It was a normal day in the life of Brazilian online gamer Guilherme Menezes. As just another day of work, ‘Guixxm’, as he goes by as his online handle, was streaming his video game to his Twitch followers.
However, in the middle of his 9th of October live stream, something went wrong. Suddenly, a man thrust a gun up against Menezes’s head. Menezes was being robbed in the middle of his live stream! The robber forced him to get up while Guixxm left his video game streaming on his computer.
Menezes lives in a home with his family in the Guaruja municipality, Sao Paulo in Brazil. So, you can imagine his worry not just for himself, but for his entire family. In fact, as Menezes has later described in a post, he was extremely concerned for his elderly father who has a heart condition.
You can watch Guilherme Menezes explain his personal recounting of the robbery here.
Saved by the Game, not the Bell
With two robbers looting their entire home and Menezes and his entire family held hostage in the living room, a miracle happened. One of his viewers, who also lived in the nearby area, knew Guixxm’s address and called the authorities!
Thankfully, the police arrived so rapidly that they were actually able to apprehend one of the two robbers. The one robber that was taken into police custody was found to be in possession of a fake gun.
The lesson here? If you’re going to game, do so in good company!
