Popular gaming youtuber CoryxKenshin returns after a year-long break from media. He’s back to play some horror games for his fans as usual, but also announces a special surprise: he’s been working on a manga!
Cory has come up with his own original sci-fi/fantasy story and published the first book of the series online. As a big fan of Japanese culture, he’s published it in manga form. There is currently no physical copies yet, but we hope that they will be able to get printed soon.
Who is CoryxKenshin?
If you don’t already know or haven’t seen him in a while, it’s ok! Cory is a black man who plays horror games and reacts to scary fiction videos sent in by fans via Twitter. He also has a few video series of other genres, such as Cooking with Kenshin and Try Not to Laugh. He is well loved for his hilarious comments, serious compassion and honesty. Because of this, he now has 21 million subscribers on YouTube.
Cory is a big fan of Japanese culture and represents that in how he addresses his fans as “Samurai”. He has katanas in his logo and his animated mascot character wears a kimono while slicing the screen. He sells merch of his Japanese-style mascot, including his pet plant Momo.
Being Christian, he makes sure to have a bible verse on his outro at the end of each video. He is not ashamed to express his beliefs on occasion; thanking God for his fans and blessings or being empathetic in how he approaches serious topics.
His fans often joke about his long absences and possible causes for him to leave. Meanwhile, others express worry and lose hope that he’d ever return. The truth is that Cory just has a busy life outside of Youtube. Playing video games is a hobby for him and he loves it. Still, he knows how to balance his media life and his in-person life in a healthy way. He knows that no matter when or how, there will always be people ready to watch him.
His Apology Video
However, some fans were not pleased with how he returned. When reacting to his anime trailer short, they thought he just came back to announce his new project and move on without addressing his fans. They believe that Cory should at least let his fans know when he’s leaving.
The way he disappears off the internet without a warning causes many to worry about his well-being or argue whether he cares about his fans at all. All of these concerns are understandable, and there are alot of conversations on the internet speculating and making rumors about why he has such unpredictable seasons of active and non-activeness.
In his third video of 2025, where he played his first horror game of the year, he began his video by giving an apology. He acknowledges the fans’ concerns and that he may not have made the best come back. However, who knows if people would be 100% satisfied no matter how he constructs his return? Coryxkenshin says that he doesn’t even have social media on his phone, only emails, so he’s not constantly checking on updates.
Other fans come to Cory’s defense, saying that he shouldn’t owe anyone an apology. He has his own life outside of YouTube and a right to as much privacy as he wants. They remind people that nobody is obligated to cater to their entertainment.
The Monsters We Make
Cory releases a short Anime trailer for his new manga, Monsters We Make. It features several characters who are fighting against an ugly beast while using sci-fi technology and weapons. It appears the main character will be a young black man with dreads.
The animation is so beautiful and smooth! Cory was wise when finding good and reliable artists to help him succeed in his work. He gives thanks to everyone who supported his work and read it pre-release to give reviews.
The book is currently only available digitally on his website made specially for the story. It says physical copies will be delivered by 2025. That is a long time to wait; I want it in my hands now!
The summary description on the website says that the main character’s name is Jabari Booker, and he is actually a seventeen year old! He starts attending a prestigious school hoping to grow his talent in music. However, the school is recruiting the children to become heroes, soldiers, to fight humans mutated into beasts. What is going on in their city? Can they uncover the evil secrets underneath and get rid of them for good?
What Makes it a Manga?
The book reads right to left like a real manga and uses an artstyle typical of japanese shonen. It is an American manga! I love it so much. As an artist who practices manga art herself, it is inspiring to see other Americans do the same thing and succeed in their dreams. Sharing and enjoying cultures is so beautiful.
I recommend everyone give Cory’s manga a look! It sounds like it will be a great story. He deserves all the support for what an amazing entertainer he is and a friendly person. Wait for the book to come out physically if you want, and enjoy Cory’s many youtube videos.
Coryxkenshin’s return to YouTube in 2025 has been a major event to his followers. His many subscribers is a testament to how many people genuinely enjoy watching him despite his long disappearances. You can always go back to some of his old videos and enjoy watching them. I absolutely wasn’t expecting him to come out with a manga, and never knew it was one of his interests, so it was a memorable surprise.
