A rare, first-edition version of a Harry Potter book was salvaged from a bargain bin and sold for $70,000. It was in near pristine condition, according to People’s news site.

According to Hanson Auctioneers, a lady sold the copy. Upon first obtaining her first edition novel, the woman kept it and stored it away, intending to give it to her children. She believed she could start a tradition by passing the book down through her family’s future generations.

She had had it tucked away in a corner of her bookshelf for over 20 years. The woman said she kept it in a dark corner to preserve its well-kept condition.

However thrilling the novel was when first written, it holds even more value in current times. The Harry Potter novels’ worth has skyrocketed. Recent research would even show that the book series’ worth has risen higher than seen before.

The history of the ‘Philosopher’s Stone’ novel

The particular book sold was Philosopher’s Stone, written by JK Rowling. Most people know this book by its incredibly creative storyline, Harry Potter as the protagonist, and his two best friends, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley.

Furthermore, it is comprehensible how valuable The Philosopher’s Stone could be to fans, especially with the copy being a first edition. To simply anyone, the value of Harry Potter may not be as much. However, to someone who has indulged in debate over the many beautifully crafted Harry Potter productions and its illustrious merchandise, the book may be life or death.
