The car was put up for auction on the 28th of May at East Bristol Auctions as a part of the Entertainment Memorabilia Auction before a private collector snatched it up for the price of £15,000.
The car had previously starred in an iconic moment of the British tv show, as Jay (played by James Buckley) ridicules a group of people waiting at a bus stop moments before the car becomes trapped in traffic.
The prop was listed with a starting price of £2,000, however, this number was rapidly raised by fans as they competed over the vehicle.
The car in question is a 1996 Fiat Cinquecento, and adorned with a number of strange modifications, such as the characteristic mismatched front door and raunchy bumper sticker.
Andrew Stowe, an auctioneer who worked on the sale, said:
“The bidding was fierce and we had interest from all over the world – America, Canada, and even Australia. Everyone wanted a piece of it!”
“It just goes to show the popularity of the programme – this is the Batmobile of British comedy!
Prior to the sales’ completion, the auction house reported a queue of pedestrians waiting to take photos with the car after seeing it on the property.
