Coachella Cancelled Thanks to Coronavirus Pandemic

Better safe than sorry

The popular two-weekend music and arts festival in California has been cancelled amid fears of spreading the infamous COVID-19.

As the Coronavirus spreads across the world, institutions have been forced to take precautionary measures to prevent further infection by choice. The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California is the biggest annual event to be cancelled by the pandemic so far but it surely won’t be the last.

As of now, Coachella will be postponed until October 2020, with their official Twitter handle stating that while their decision “comes at a time of universal uncertainty, we take the safety and health of our guests, staff, and community very seriously”. They also urged everyone to “follow the guidelines and protocols put forth by public health officials”, and reassured their customers that full refunds will be available for anyone who wants them.

Coachella’s lineup this year was looking fantastic with artists like Frank Ocean, Travis Scott, Thom Yorke and Run the Jewels, but I’d rather avoid more people getting sick then risking infecting 125,000 people plus all my favorite musicians. Oh well, October isn’t so far away.

There’s a lot of uncertainty to the Coronavirus, but the recommendation of the CDC is for every to stay at home and let this whole thing blow over without getting yourself or anyone else sick. I can’t blame Coachella for playing it safe. But if you’re looking for some insight into how this plague will play out, you might want to read up on how The Simpsons predicted all this.
