For Shizzle, Korine returns with 1st movie in 6 years
It’s been 6 long years since Harmony Korine’s last movie, crime drama Spring Breakers, starring James Franco, Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, and Ashley Benson.
Fans will be pleased to know that the director’s next project, Beach Bum, starring Matthew McConaughey, Isla Fisher, Zac Efron, Martin Lawrence, and, of course, a renowned connoisseur of the devil’s lettuce, Snoop Dogg, will be in theaters in spring 2019.
Starring alongside Snoop Dogg in a movie that heavily features the chronic was always likely to inspire some on-set hijinks.
Matthew McConaughey learned this the hard way as the Oscar winner told Jimmy Kimmel that Snoop had actually gotten him stoned during one scene in which their characters share a joint by switching fake weed with real jazz cabbage.
McConaughey, speaking about the scene, said: “I went to the prop man to make sure I have the prop weed, which is like crushed oregano. (During filming), We pass back and forth, and all of a sudden, at the end, he goes, ‘Yo Moondog, that ain’t prop weed, that’s Snoop Weed.’ I was like, ‘Oh, you son of a gun.’”
He went on to say: “The next 9 hours were a lot of fun, but I don’t think we used one word in the English language.”
So what’s it about?
The Beach Bum stars McConaughey as Moondog, a stoner poet living a degenerate lifestyle in Miami Beach. “I write poetry and I like to have fun, man,” as Moondog says himself. Here’s the plot synopsis:
“An irreverent comedy that follows the misadventures of Moondog, a rebellious and lovable rogue who lives life large. Moondog, once a celebrated & highly respected poet, has devolved into a burned-out shell of a man, now a womanizing hedonist who lives his aimless existence in a reefer-fueled haze.
But things change on a dime when his wealthy wife dies suddenly, and it seems he cannot collect on any of his inheritance until he’s finally published the poetry book he’s been working on for years.”
