Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood has made a name for himself outside of the band as a film composer and has notably worked with Paul Thomas Anderson on films such as There Will Be Blood and The Master. Now, the frontman Thom Yorke will be spearheading Jonny Greenwood’s remake of the 1977 horror film Suspiria and will be making his film score debut.
Suspiria is a reboot of the 1977 arthouse-horror classic concerning Satanic occurrences at a dance academy. The remake is being directed by Luca Guadagino and will star his frequent collaborator, Tilda Swinton. Dakota Johnson and Chloe Grace Moretz are also being added to the star-studded cast.
Thom Yorke, the distinctive singer of the British Group has released ‘Suspirium’, an initial extract from the soundtrack on his youtube channel on September 4th. The track itself is illustrated with an animated video of a dancer, paying homage to the main theme of the film. As an extract itself, it is quite haunting and classical, with Yorke’s tortured voice carrying it through to the end. It is very enjoyable, and if this is just an extract of what Yorke has to offer the film, then the soundtrack is bound to be unique and memorable.
“Our goal is to make a movie that will be a disturbing and transforming experience: for this ambition, we could not find a better partner than Thom” said director Guadagino on Yorke’s hire.
The soundtrack for the original film, especially terrifying and contributing to the large impact it had on audiences was created by Goblin. We are keen to see what the musician can bring to this remake.
The musician said several weeks ago that he has been inspired by the work of Vangelis on the Blade Runner soundtrack, making this sound, all the more exciting.
