McRae rose in the scene thanks to TikToks she posted of her original songwriting. “White Boy” was her first big hit back in 2019, a song detailing her experiences as a black woman. She released her first album in 2022, Are You Happy Now? It features other tracks like “My Ego Dies At The End,” explaining a loss of identity that can be relatable. She blew up again on TikTok with her Phoebe Bridgers parody, which she turned into a full-length track, “Immune” (2021). The release of “Massachusetts” is what garnered her an even bigger following on the media-sharing app. Her performance of the song sits at 6.7 million views today.

What began as a band with artist Maggie Rogers is now the artist name for S. Holden Jaffe, who began with indie-folk but is now taking the indie-pop/rock world by storm. Indie darlings should be well familiar with Jaffe. “High Tops” (2018) is one of the truest classics there could be for 2010s indie, and Del Water Gap has only continued putting out masterpieces since. After releasing two quintessential EPs, Jaffe’s debut album, Del Water Gap, released in 2021. This record is banger after banger, with its biggest hit “Ode to a Conversation Stuck in Your Throat” sitting at over 100 million streams. Del Water Gap is a prolific performer. He hit the road in 2022 for the headlining tour of his debut album and hasn’t looked back since. Closing out the US leg of the tour is quickly on the rise, 20-year-old Bella Kay. A user shared her Tiny Desk performance of the track on the video-sharing platform, and the song has taken off from there.

A talented lyricist, his lyrics are reminiscent of artists like Phoebe Bridgers who utilize storytelling as a means of getting a message across. The meaning is up to the listener to pick apart, which Minch does beautifully with only one album out. George (2025) was released just last year, and even this early into his career, Minch has already released indie classics, especially with “Fingers and Clothes.”
