Whatever age you are, you either love, or know someone who loves ‘The Simpsons’.

Our favourite animated family have been gracing our screens since 1989 and the series has now been named the longest-running prime-time scripted series in TV history.

With 29 seasons to date and plenty of hilarious story lines under their belt, the ever-so-slightly dopey Homer Simpson and his family of misfits have been keeping viewers across the world entertained for decades now.

Aired on Fox in America, the hit series’ popularity is equally represented here in the UK with people tuning in every night to see what the dysfunctional family have been getting up to.

With an array of interesting characters including mischievous Bart and his hard-working sister Lisa, every family is bound to be able to relate to the day-to-day family life of the Simpsons, even if they are just drawings on a page.

‘The Simpsons’ new record has previously been held by CBS Western’s ‘Gunsmoke’ which totaled an amazing 653 episodes being aired from 1955-1975.

‘The Simpsons’ however has just topped the CBS show, with 636 episodes and a 30th series already in the pipeline.

And the record breaking moment for ‘The Simpsons’ saw them pay homage to ‘Gunsmoke’ with the 636th episode opening with baby Maggie entering a dual with the Western show’s lead character, Marshall Matt Dillon.
