The creator also explained that the series ensured that the self-contained story about the relationship between Frank and Bill was to avoid contributing to the harmful trope; they did not use them as an instrument to create an account of a straight character.

The events leading up to the meeting of Ellie and Joel with Bill are the same situation derived from the original game, but this new series changes the story of Bill and gives him more exploration and a prominent role.
