Prisoners is an American thriller film focusing on the abduction of two young girls in Pennsylvania. It made its debut on August 30, 2013, at Telluride Film Festival and on September 20, 2013, in the US. The movie is directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Aaron Guzikowski. It stars Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Viola Davis, Maria Bello, Terrence Howard, Melissa Leo, and Paul Dano.

The movie ranked number one at the box office and grossed over $20,817,053 on its opening weekend. It became one of the top ten films of 2013 and was nominated for Best Cinematography at 86th Academy Awards. The film stands an average of 7.30/10 and is known for its emotional complexity.

The plot pays attention to the abduction of Anna and Joy and the subsequent search for the suspects. The father of the daughters, Keller, became a threat as he decided to take the matter into his own hands and went after a young suspect. Keller kidnapped Alex and kept him at his childhood home. He was joined by Joy’s father, Franklin, and both interrogated Alex by torturing Alex over several days.

In the end, it was revealed that the daughters were kidnapped by Holly and her husband in a “war on God”. This was done to avenge the death of their late son, who died due to cancer. The daughters were later on found and taken to the hospital. The movie ends with Keller blowing Anna’s emergency whistle. Unfortunately, we never saw Loku finding Keller, and there can be a possibility that Keller was never found and Loky ignored the sound of the whistle.
