Superheroes have been changing the world of entertainment since the beginning of their time. Marvel, specifically, has raised the bar in terms of gaming and films. They have their own film universe in which their movies take place. In fact, its universe contains more movies than every other film universe there is.

Why This Movie Matters
Not only does it look like it is going to be the ultimate badass superhero flick, this movie, the eighteenth one in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is different from its predecessors. In an interview with Rolling Stone, the filmmaker said, “I think the question that I’m trying to ask and answer in Black Panther is, ‘What does [it] truly mean to be African?'”
Black Panther portrays a hero who is unapologetically black. The movie is dripping with swagger; just the music in the trailer will get your head bumping. One of the cooler things about the film is that it exists in a fantasy world that tries to be as close to our world as possible. While Wakanda is not a real place, it stands for so much more than the fantasy it is.
In a way, Wakanda represents what a culture could become if it is given the chance to grow isolated from horrors of external intervention like the slave trade and other negative impacts.
T’Challa also stands for more. As the first black superhero introduced into the mainstream comic universe, he is not a sidekick, comic relief, or the enemy. He is the main man. Every kid in the audience will respect T’Challa or want to be T’Challa.
The DC comic movie Wonder Woman gave girls a role model: a movie fully centered around a woman. Black Panther will do the same thing for young black children. It’s important for kids to see themselves represented in Hollywood, especially in the Superhero realm. A large percentage of the audience at these films is kids. It is
important for girls and boys of all races to see a superhero that looks like them both in and out of their costumes.
The movie is set to hit theaters on February 16, 2018. Grab some popcorn and get ready for a movie experience that will expand your definition of a superhero.
