A new pool in Poland caused ripples for being the world’s deepest dive pool. The complex, named Deepspot, opened near Warsaw this weekend. You can visit their website here.
“It’s the world’s deepest pool,” Deepspot director Michal Braszczynski, a 47-year-old diving enthusiast, told AFP at the opening on Saturday.
Braszczynski said the pool “will also be used by the fire brigade and the army. There are many scenarios for training and we can also test different equipment.
At 45.5 meters, or 150 feet, it contains 8,000 cubic meters of water: 20 times the water of a standard 25m pool. Deepspot also includes artificial underwater caves, Mayan ruins, and a small wreck for divers to explore.
This record won’t be kept for long, however: the 50-meter (164-foot) deep Blue Abyss pool is slated to open in the United Kingdom come 2021. This facility aims to be the world’s best underwater research and training facility.
Przemyslaw Kacprzak, diving instructor, spoke on the grand opening. “There are no magnificent fish or coral reefs here, so it does not replace the open water, but it is definitely a very good tool for learning and training in order to then dive safely in open waters. And then it’s a lot of fun, it’s kindergarten for divers!”
The dive center is allowed to reopen in spite of virus restrictions. This is because it offers training courses. Deepspot is currently planning a hotel with rooms from which guests can watch divers at a depth of five meters.
