World’s First ‘Floating Pool’ Set to Open Next Spring in London

Swimming in the sky between 2 buildings is not fiction anymore!

Sky Pool, the world’s first-ever ‘floating swimming pool’ is a new and innovative acrylic pool that stretches between the gaps of 2 buildings, 35 meters from the ground.

This Embassy Gardens’ innovation is a clear 25-meter long outdoor pool that connects the two Legacy residential buildings on the 10th story, 35 meters up in the sky.

This will allow the residents to swim and move between the buildings, without ever getting out of the pool!

The idea came when developers were looking for a place large enough to fit Embassy Gardens’ new outdoor swimming pool and found the space between the two buildings sufficient for a never-done-before floating pool.

“We decided the only space large enough was between the buildings,” says Tristan Stout, Senior Development Manager at Ballymore. “So we started to research images of aqueducts. If those structures could span valleys, we believed we could build a structure to span two buildings.”

When installed, the sky pool will be transparent so that the swimmers can see below their feet, and passers-by can also see the sky.

“Once you swim off, you can look right down. It will be like flying,” says Brian Eckersley director of Eckersley O’Callaghan, Sky Pool structural engineers.

The new roof area – also known as the ‘Sky Deck’ –  will include a spa and summer bar with stunning views of London icons such as the Houses of Parliament, London Eye, and the new US Embassy located next door.

After completion, the floating pool traveled over 1,000 miles by road from Colorado to Galveston in Texas, before making its 3-week journey across the Atlantic Ocean, reaching its final home.

The structure was then safely installed on 28 September 2020 and is expected to receive guests by Spring 2021.

The only thing left is for covid to be eradicated so we can finally enjoy some much-missed summer next year!
