Right now, the coronavirus has rightfully taken up most of the news cycle. The infectious disease has reportedly killed just over 17,000 people. That is no small number, and is definitely a cause for concern. But it is no good to just harp over it all day long. So, to help take my mind off of the ongoing pandemic, I continually read up on news and, or watch interesting videos. And I would absolutely classify, “Weird Waves”, with Dylan Moses as one of those sources of entertainment.
In the fourth installment of the series (presented by Vans®), host Dylan Moses investigates the trend of wave pools.
Wave pools have become more advanced as the years have gone on, to the point where professional surfing events have the ability to be conducted inside of one of these pools.
After watching the video above, I still don’t really know where I stand on wave pools. Yes, they look like a blast but like people in the clip say, it is too expensive for the masses as of now. A hour of waves costs nearly $700. That is out of the price range for most people, especially if they have the ability to pick up a surfboard and just head to the ocean.
Still, it isn’t like people in Wyoming have access to a ton of waves. These pools help open the sport of surfing to a whole new audience. I am no surfer, but I do not think an artificial pool has the ability to replace going out in nature and ride some waves.
Either way, this technology has become revolutionary. Like Moses says, time will tell but, “it will be a valuable asset to the progression and growth” of surfing. And at the end of the day, it is just a different way for people to go out and have fun: something everyone should be all about.
