It has always been the hope that the coronavirus would just go away. Sadly, that is an irrational hope. At this current point in time- with no vaccine and lack of restrictions- the coronavirus is the worst it has ever been in the United States. According to the New York Times, the U.S.A. has reportedly hit a new COVID-19 case record for the third day in a row.
Despite that fact, some people are still not taking the coronavirus seriously. A perfect example of this was captured on the New York city subway, where a man refused to put on a mask despite other passengers heckling him.
There is a lot to digest in this video. And based on your perspective on things you can take it plenty of ways. For me, this guy is a jerk.
First off, I would like to say I do not care if you do not believe masks work (even though they are proven to be effective). And yes, in the United States you are free to your right to not wear a mask.
At the same time, why can’t this guy just put on a face covering? No one likes wearing a face mask, but it is to help prevent themselves, and others from getting sick. This guy clearly has no regards for others and definitely thinks he is “special” like he said in the video.
I don’t agree with him being attacked on the subway, but I more so agree with the fact that he should just cover his face. If he had any empathy for the others around him, he would just put on a mask. Walking around without a covering just puts stress on a lot of people doing their best in trying to keep themselves and their family healthy.
Good for the guy in standing up for his rights, but I can’t appreciate him being a selfish person for no real reason. I really don’t understand, and sadly I don’t think I ever will.
