On Monday 2nd November, Julie McSorley and her friend Liz Cottriel were whale watching when a huge humpback whale emerged from the water of Avila Beach and capsized their kayaks.

A serene morning of clear blue waters soon turned into a scene out of Jaws as two kayakers were caught in the mouth of a whale.

Speaking to Fox26News the women shared their experience of sheer terror:

‘The whale was right here in my face, literally’

I’m thinking, ‘I’m dead. I’m dead.’ I thought it was gonna land on me,”

Surrounding paddleboarders and kayakers soon came to their rescue once the two woman had resurfaced after being submerged by the whale to check they had not been injured.

In a shift to the new popular social media platform, TikTok, a clip filmed by another whale watched captured the terrifying moments which has now generated 4.2 million views!
