Police have released footage showing an 82-year-old man attempting to stop a teenager from stealing his car.
City of Atlanta Police Department released a surveillance video from March 11 in the hope of tracking down an armed carjacker who attempted to steal an elderly man’s vehicle.
The CCTV footage shows the teenager waiting at a city gas station when the car pulls up. He proceeds to try and steal the car as the 82-year-old owner stands at the pump. They appear to exchange words before it turns violent.
The elderly man courageously defends himself, managing to tackle the carjacker to the floor. Despite a valiant effort from a man several decades his senior, the carjacker overpowers him and makes a break for the car, climbing into the driver’s seat.
However, the carjacker ditches his attempt and flees the scene after the car seemingly fails to start. Here you can watch the surveillance footage of the altercation.
Fortunately, the victim received no serious injuries, but did express to the authorities that he had hurt his arm during the ordeal.
The theft attempt occurred nearly a month ago and the police have released the footage in an appeal for help from the public to identify the young man.
The victim told police that the suspect pulled out his firearm and asked, “you wanna die?” as he made his way to the vehicle, according to 11 Alive TV, citing the incident report.
