Why Is Trump Facing Impeachment?
President Trump urged the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, to carry out investigations on his political rival, Joe Biden. With Trump clearly worried about the upcoming 2020 presidential election campaign, he resorted to breaking the law. It is illegal to ask external countries for help in winning a US election. Trump would have been aware of this so this was no innocent mistake. Joe Biden and his son will be standing against President Trump in the upcoming election, and so pose a threat to Trump.
Who Initiated The Inquiry?
On September 24, 2019, a whistleblower came forward with secret information about Trump’s misconduct. So, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi took it upon herself to initiate the inquiry. A very empowering moment for women standing up for injustice in the supposed ‘land of the free’ and ‘home of the brave’.

19-year-old History and Politics student, Emily Knutsson, thinks “Trump’s lewd behavior is embarrassing” and the United States requires a “more respectable” leader than the one they currently have. Trump’s ‘America first’ policy is “damaging” the country’s reputation and making them a laughing stock on the international stage.
What Does Trump Think?
Trump appears to be fairly accepting of facing impeachment. He recently tweeted: “if you are going to impeach me, do it now, fast.” However, he does seem slightly doubtful that he will definitely be impeached by saying “if” rather than ‘when’.
Other US Presidents Impeached
Out of the 45 US Presidents, only 2 have been impeached: Andrew Johnson (1868) and Bill Clinton (1998). So, while some may argue that Trump facing impeachment comes as no surprise, impeachments are not commonplace.
When Will We Find Out?
All we know that it may happen before Christmas. However, there are no guarantees. The idea is to get it done as soon as possible, but seeing how long Brexit has been drawn out, we can only speculate.
