The biggest theme park in Wuhan (ground zero of the coronavirus pandemic) has seen nearly three thousand visitors this week for their grand reopening.
The theme park called “Happy Valley Wuhan” opened it’s gates this past Tuesday under the condition that they can prove they don’t have the virus. The staff achieved this vetting process by having guests use a health app on their phone which was scanned at the entrance, ensuring all who entered were not contagious to the general public.
In addition, tickets for the partial reopening had to be purchased online ahead of time. Despite these obstacles, thousands of people turned up after several long and painful months of quarantine. Wuhan, capital city of Hubei Province, was the epicenter of the covid-19 outbreak and suffered greatly from it’s spreading. Although their lockdown ended on April 8th, it’s only now that officials feel confident enough to allow folks to really start having some fun again.
The park has implemented other protective measures such as temperature checks, mandatory masks and constant disinfection of surfaces to ensure the virus doesn’t stand a chance of ruining the good vibes. The park is also operating at only twenty percent of it’s normal capacity and are avoiding indoor activities as well as major tour groups. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely a sign things may be going back to normal in the near future.
One interviewed visitor said that:
“This is the first time I’ve been on a roller coaster with a mask on. At least now no one will be able to see my face when they take a photo of me screaming.”
Just goes to show having a positive outlook on things can go a long way.
The Chinese government and Wuhan authorities plan on implementing extensive testing to all the citizens of the city in a bid to continue fighting the pandemic and returning to a status quo. While the world is eager to get back to normal, it’s important to stay safe and do the right things so we can all get out of this alive. I want to ride a roller coaster as much as the next guy, but better late than never. If you’re not willing to wait for your favorite theme park to reopen, you could always visit the last standing Blockbuster which has survived the pandemic unscathed.
