Brenton Tarrant, age 28, killed 40 people and at least 20 are injured after he opened fire on two of the biggest mosques in New Zealand.
The mosque shootings were two consecutive terrorist mass shootings at Muslim mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, during Friday Prayer on 15 March 2019. The attacks began at the Al Noor Mosque in the suburb of Riccartonat 1:40 pm, and continued at the Linwood Islamic Center at about 1:55 pm.
Tarrant, a native Australian, live streamed the massacre on his Facebook page. The footage shows him firing off 205 rounds of ammunition in the mosque. There isn’t much information on Tarrent but his Facebook profile says:
” I have a low income family. My parents are of Scottish, Irish and English stock.I had a regular childhood, without any great issues.”
Tarrants’ actions are concerning since recently he posted a manifesto on Facebook which has been described as a racist diatribe, calling immigration ‘white genocide’ and threatening to carry out an attack to avenge deaths caused by thousands of foreign invaders.
