Skating culture is huge in America. This video from Vice dives into an 88-acre skatepark in Ohio and shows what is next for these amazing skaters.
Skatopia is a skatepark in an area of former woods and farmland. You might recognise it from Tony Hawk’s skaters videogame. The park includes two indoor bowls, a full pipe, a concrete outdoor bowl. Furthermore, it is home to The Museum of Skateboarding History, with a collection of 12,000 vintage skateboards.
Brewce Martin, the founder of Skatopia suffered a traumatic injury leading to his son taking the reins. Here is where we see the innovation of what is to come in the skating industry.
Bowl Bash is the top event held at Skatopia and their busiest weekend of the year. The weekend comprises of skaters coming to Skatopia. They hang out with friends, show off their skills, listening to live music and have fun. Vice filmed the lead up to and the events of the weekend itself.
Brandon Martin, the son of Brewce, does the graphic design and website elements for Skatopia. As he begins to take over his father’s legacy, he plans to expand the park and make it somewhere to learn of the history of skater culture.
