In a recent interview clip, Paris Saint-Germain and France forward Kylian Mbappé spoke about the pitfalls of sporting success. The clip shows Mbappé talking to French journalist Elise Lucet in front of a populated trophy cabinet, reveals what the 25-year-old misses since his footballing career took off.
At the beginning of the viral clip posted on X, Lucet asked Mbappé when he last walked to buy bread from the shop. He laughed, admitting that he couldn’t remember. Recalling the days when doing everyday tasks like shopping was a chore, he says, “I’d pay so much money now to be able to this kind of thing, which is nothing for most people.
“This is what it’s all about. I’ve lost my spontaneity as a human being. I can’t just go out and do things if I want to. Everything is organized now.”
Lucet asked him what he would do if he could be invisible for 48 hours. He responded, “I’d spend my two days outside, that’s for sure!
“Go eat quietly in a brasserie, go out, go with friends, party quietly, without anyone to come see me. The next morning, a nice brunch in the sun on a terrace, there you have it. Simple things in life.”
The clip posted on social media is part of a longer, tell-all interview for the television programme Envoyé Spécial. The full interview airs on France 2 on January 18th.
Mbappé’s Success
Kylian Mbappé joined PSG on loan from AS Monaco in 2017 before completing a permanent move to the club in 2018. In 283 games played for the club, he has scored 234 goals. Since then, he has become a household name, now widely regarded as one of the most famous players in world football.
He won the World Cup with France in 2018 and scored three goals in the most recent World Cup final. He has earned 75 caps for Les Bleus, scoring 46 goals in total for the national side. The Frenchman has also won Ligue 1, which is top of the French football league system, six times.
Mbappé’s contract with PSG ends this summer. While there have been no decisions made about Mbappé’s future, he has been linked with a transfer to Real Madrid. His grumbles about life in the French capital might suggest that a move away from the Ligue 1 club in the summer is on the cards.
Having been with PSG and playing for his national team since the age of 18, Kylian Mbappé’s fame and success is rooted in Paris. While an international transfer could allow him to live a more low-key life, a move to the likes of Real Madrid will only skyrocket his celebrity status. With a busy summer coming up – all eyes on him in the transfer window and expected to play at Euro 2024 – life for Kylian Mbappé is not likely to slow down any time soon.
