The number 4 is definitely Derek Carr’s lucky number! On March 6, 2023, the QB officially closed his 4-year deal with the New Orleans Saints. Sports fanatics on social media are ecstatic about this change, creating multiple reaction videos, expressing how much of a good move this is for Carr.

Derek Carr is no stranger to the Saints. Head football coach of the New Orleans Saints, Dennis Allen, was once Carr’s coach for the Las Vegas Raiders, making this a reunion to remember! After reaching an agreement, it was announced that Carr would receive $150 million for the next four years, in which $70 million is agreed upon at signing and another $10 million guaranteed for the first year of the deal.

Nonetheless, the Saints are welcoming Carr with open arms. “Derek’s experience, leadership, and skillset will be an asset to our offense,” Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said during an exclusive interview with the Associated Press.

When one door closes, eventually, another one will open; just ask Derek Carr. On Feb.14, 2023, the Las Vegas Raiders released the veteran QB due to declining to waive a no-trade clause in his contract. Granted, the Raiders were forced to trade or release Carr at a specific date to avoid having $40.4 million of his contract over the next two years fully guaranteed. However, this is an unfortunate situation.

“We have a lot of respect for Derek Carr and what he has meant to the Raiders organization for the last nine years. Derek has done great things in this league and we’re thankful to have been able to work with him this past year. He is a true professional and we appreciate his hard work in striving to produce the results we all desire. We wish Derek and his family all the best in the future.”

Derek Carr’s New Beginning

Video Credit: YouTube

“I once said that if I’m not a Raider I would rather be at home and I meant that, but I never envisioned it ending this way. That fire burning inside of me to win a championship still rages. A fire no man can extinguish; only God. So I look forward to a new city and a new team who, no matter the circumstance, will get everything I have. Winning a championship is what I’ve always wanted and what I will continue to work towards.”
