With Covid-19 and Black Lives Matter protests still going on peacefully, there is a lot happening at once. The media reports on these stories but certain networks use their biases to raise more anger within their viewers, even when it is completely false and done solely for this purpose. If you couldn’t tell, yes this is yet another intentional stunt made by Fox News. Which is obviously why Orange-in-Chief tweets about it and spreads the anger even more.
Fox News’ latest mistake is reading a post on Reddit that was quoting from ‘Monty Python and The Holy Grail’ as a joke, but based on the real feelings of a local protestor, about some peaceful protests and the takeover of Seattle’s Autonomous Zone. This local protestor is “Raz Simmone, a local rapper”, who has been vocal about defunding the police and having the city become more community lead (unilad.co.uk 1). Fox News, though, did what they do best: skewed this into yet another attack on the Black Lives Matter movement and make sweeping generalizations about all the protestors across the country. Before all of their programs air, there really should be a disclaimer that reads “The following program has been fictionalized for your entertainment” because that is literally what they do day in and day out.
See The Report For Yourself
People are angry, hurt, scared, grieving, and so much more but all Fox News sees is a bunch of people who have, in their eyes, descended into anarchy. Instead of reporting on what is really happening, they’re just trying to give their viewers, especially Trump, what they think they already know. That’s not reporting on the real news. That’s not trying to empower viewers to see the real problems in our country and see how we can all come together to make the necessary changes. That’s just trying to boost their ratings. They shouldn’t even be a media platform with as much respect as they show the industry. They should just be a couple of angry people in a garage or basement on a podcast, hiding out there always, who just want to scream and shout instead of actually trying to make some real progress and inspire change.
To make matters worse, this is not the first time Fox News has done this to the Seattle Autonomous Zone, shocking I know. According to a source, Fox News was “forced to issue an official apology for using digitally-altered images of Seattle in its broadcast, including an image of an entirely different city” (unilad.co.uk 3). Of course what they will never report on is since George Floyd’s death on May 25th, there have been more peaceful protests which are resulting in positive changes and more community building to bring everyone together.
Every day our country is becoming more divided. Listening to medical professionals has become a blue vs. red issue. Racial injustice and police brutality has become even deeper of a divided blue vs. red issue. Everything is turning into a politically divided issue, whether it needs to be or not. Lately, it seems like we’re enjoying being at odds with each other more than wanting to come together, fix our issues, and make this country truly better. That terrifies me the most. If we can’t come together, speak to each other respectfully and decently, and figure out how to fix the bridges that we’ve burned and do this soon, then I truly don’t know if we’re ever going to be able to move past this. We have serious issues and we need serious people to be ready to step in, help bring all sides together, and solve these problems. Future generations are counting on us now to make things right. Let’s take this seriously and get to work! As always, keep staying safe everyone and education on these issues comes from friends and family as well as protestors and others who are in this fight, not outlets like Fox News.
