During a prison siege in Ireland, two inmate assailants threatened to cut off a fellow prisoner’s ear, and demanded Mars bars, tobacco, and Swiss rolls in exchange for their weapons.

Only a few days ago, two inmates from Ireland’s Midlands prison in Portaloise captured and held hostage a third prisoner. When confronted by the prison gaurds, they demanded Mars bars, tobacco and Swiss rolls.

A representative from the officers’ association told the Irish Independent:

They sought tobacco, Swiss rolls and Mars Bars. Shortly before 8:30 pm staff forced entry into the cell and removed all four prisoners, meeting considerable resistance from at least two.

While the two assailant prisoners held a fellow hostage, in the cell, there was a fourth prisoner present.  He claimed that he had nothing to do with the siege and the hostage situation.

After entering a lengthy negotiation, the prison’s emergency restraint team came down to an agreement with the assailants. The assailants agreed to a Mars bar per person, in return for handing over their weapons.
